I hate art school reddit. BUT, being a “traditional oil painter” in a contemporary “art school” is just so frustrating. they are so utterly annoying. The ones who get lowest grades in their school finals are the only ones who get into Arts stream in college because their scores are too low for Commerce or Science stream, this is what it was a few years ago. What if they don’t like it? Could you offer some advice on how to deal with professional critique? As an artist and art school graduate, and having worked in the art field for years i can tell you that I know the feeling you are having, my first few years in the professional art world I had a sudden realization that all my romantic views about art and really about the world were lies, and that art like everything else in our society is a business. they are so annoying re*ards that think they are the greatest people here. No… As the title says I fucking hate school. Didn't get a job in art or anything in that field. Besides being very far from my hometown, I have a hard time trying to connect with people here. Make me take it once for freshmen year so I can focus on my major more. You could self-study (learn for yourself), there are many artists who have never went to art school, also it's not like you can't reapply to the art school or even a different one. Also I went on into a career in film and game design and probably know less than 7 people that I’ve worked with over the last 15 years who have been into sports. I had a similar experience throughout law school, except perhaps even worse in some aspects. Don't expect for your family and friends to care about your art as much as Art is subjective, one art school might hate ur art and its style while another may love it. All the other different levels of AH classes can be for those seeking it or catered to that major. Ever since school started, my frustration and jealousy of people who quickly made friends just grew larger and larger, to which I would act like i had friends to my classmates, when in reality, those friends are people I stopped talking to ever since the lock down. website cause I was thinking "I wonder who teaches there?" and then I searched for "dirtstyle" via google because what I had seen there on the Yale University School of Art website reminded me of the 1990's and also Cory Arcangel's lecture/ course performance / teaching "Dirtstyle Design" but I all I got was dirtstyle. I love learning. Is not that I hate animation, I just hate my college and the people around me. They are always joining gallery shows on campus. It's filled with engaging discussions on academics, extracurriculars, college prep, and social life. After graduating architecture I have enrolled to one of the best art schools in the country. The amount of shit school is making me do is bullshit. When we start to gatekeep "art" in forms that HAS to resemble realistic objects and technicality, we start to lose valuable artists and new creative minds. These days I go to art communities and artist friends I know in real life to talk about art, to get feedback, advice, inspiration. If you go this route, I'd recommend only doing it if you're comfortable with multiple types of media and that being able to teach art tech courses like Photography or design would be a boone. I haven't enjoyed doing my art in a long time, and I don't even remember when I painted for fun. I really hate how much I relate to this. god. Change it for "i think this doesn't work because" (light, color, anatomy, composition, etc). I didn't hate grad school when I started, but closer to graduation I sure do. My advice, and the lesson I learned early on is, don't depend on family or close friends that much. It took 10-15 years after art school before I finally find a style of my own and a series I enjoyed drawing, which I chalk up to bring at a good space in my life and hitting a point where I just started doing whatever I wanted the way I wanted for the fun of it. Many people in my major got 4-5 years in and only when they did student teaching realized wow, I HATE this, and switched majors. No we don’t have everything handed to us. I basically stopped drawing anything else besides what I needed for my assignments. There are other more accesible art schools you could go to online, or a course from an artist online. I just can't find the motivation in me to care. Every time I left school, I’d go down to the junkyard (though I’m not sure your allowed to do this anymore) and pick up used furniture and crap you wouldn’t think would be worth anything. My teacher literally has just copy down the notes, says a few things, and then has us do the homework. I hate having to actually study (I breezed through my prereqs with minimal effort, but that ended in nursing school). I've never had bad experiences in art class aside from my low confidence in what i make and occasionally destroying my art in frustration. I have to take physics online and I didn't know it would be online. Art history is cool, but im not an art history major. The studio classes are fantastic more often than not, but I don’t get along with the students at all. I don't study, I barely do my homework, and I don't care about my classes even when they teach something I'm actually interested in. I really miss having friends, honest conversations, connections. Art school sucks. That said, my two fellow art teachers teach only Art 1 so they got hired without all of the extra stuff. If the parents did terrible in school, dropped out, or hated teachers they are actively teaching their kids to think that way.
